OUR PROCESS

The Orange Grove Dog Training Process

Dog training classes in to improve obedience and behavior. Expert trainers for happy, well.

Initial Consultation

Our process begins with a quick phone consultation to discuss your dog’s behaviour challenges and any specific issues you’re facing. Once we have a clear understanding of your situation, we’ll discuss the best training options and arrange a time to assess your dog in the appropriate environment, either at home or another location.

Preliminary Assessment

Next, we conduct an assessment, which can take place at your home or via Zoom for online sessions. During the one-hour assessment, we’ll gather information about your dog’s history, current behaviour, and environment. We’ll then provide you with a detailed explanation of why these behaviours are occurring and how they can be addressed.

Problem Solving

Once we’ve assessed your dog’s behaviour, we’ll help you understand the underlying causes of the issues. We will guide you through practical solutions and provide the necessary tools to resolve the behaviour challenges. Our aim is to give you the knowledge and confidence to address these issues effectively.

Training Recommendation

At the conclusion of the consultation, we will provide tailored training recommendations. This includes advice on managing your dog’s behaviour, implementing strategies moving forward, and the type of training that will be most beneficial. Depending on your dog’s needs, we may recommend additional sessions, follow-up consultations, or group training classes.

What Is Dog Obedience Training and How Does It Work?

Dog obedience training is a structured process of teaching your dog to respond to commands, behave appropriately in different environments, and interact safely with people and other animals. It starts with the basics — sit, stay, come, leave it, and heel — and builds from there depending on your dog’s needs.

Most owners notice meaningful improvements within a few weeks. Training also teaches you — our trainers make sure you understand the techniques and timing needed to maintain progress at home, because that’s where the real results happen.

Benefits of Dog Training Orange Grove

Calmer walks from week one

Experience more enjoyable and peaceful walks as your dog learns to heel and respond to commands. Orange Grove’s tailored training allows you to navigate busy trails and parks with confidence, making daily outings less stressful for both you and your dog. Over time, you’ll spend more time bonding outdoors and less time managing distractions.

Consistent responses at home and out

Through consistent training, your dog will better understand boundaries and expectations. This leads to fewer incidents of jumping, barking, or disobedience around the house or when visitors arrive. Life at home becomes more harmonious, making hosting friends and family an easier, more relaxed experience.

Weekend classes fit your busy schedule

With flexible weekend sessions in Orange Grove, you can fit effective dog training around your workweek. This convenience means no need to adjust daily work or family commitments, and you’ll see improvements without upending your routine. Training becomes an easy addition to your lifestyle rather than a burden.

Less stress during neighborhood interactions

Improved obedience gives you peace of mind during frequent encounters with neighbors or other pets. You’ll no longer have to worry about unexpected lunges, barking, or embarrassment during neighborhood strolls. Regular, positive interactions help foster a sense of community and ease your daily routines.

Why Training Matters

Before Training

Pulling, ignoring, jumping
Pulling on the lead, jumping on guests, and ignoring recall. Most owners wonder if this is just how their dog is — it isn’t.

During Training

Safety, less stress, better life
A dog that responds reliably to commands is less likely to put itself or others at risk. Dogs that understand expectations feel more settled and less anxious.

After Training

A stronger bond for life
Clear communication and consistent instruction builds
trust between you and your dog in a way few other activities can. Training is an ongoing habit, not a one-time fix.

How to get the most out of it

Every dog learns at its own pace
There is no universal timeline. Some dogs pick things up fast, others need more repetition. Focus
on progress, celebrate small wins, and trust the process.

Consistency is everything
Same commands, tone, and expectations every time — and make sure everyone in the household does the
same. Mixed signals are the most common reason dogs struggle.

Keep sessions short and frequent
5–10 minutes several times a day beats one long exhausting session. Always finish on something your
dog does well so training stays a positive experience.

Reward timing matters
Reward within 1–2 seconds of the desired behaviour. Any longer and your dog may not make the
connection. Precise timing is what accelerates learning.

Training is an ongoing habit
Finishing a programme is just the beginning. Continuing to reinforce what your dog has learned is
what keeps a well-trained dog well-trained for life.

Dog Obedience Training Service FAQs Orange Grove

Where are your dog training classes held in Orange Grove?

Group dog training classes run every Saturday over at Claremont Park and Sunday mornings at Nicholson Reserve in Yangebup. Both spots have plenty of space for the pups to run and learn. Just bring your dog, a lead, some treats, and water—no need to register weeks ahead or sign long-term contracts.

Can puppies join your training classes, and is there a minimum age?

All pups 8 weeks and older are welcome. We believe early training makes a big difference, so getting your young dogs started as soon as your vet gives the go-ahead is ideal. Classes are always tailored so both little ones and older dogs get the attention they need.

Do you offer in-home or online dog training options?

If you can’t make it to the park, I can come right to your place anywhere in Orange Grove or nearby suburbs. There’s also the option to train over Zoom, which works surprisingly well for many of the basics and behaviour issues. Just let me know what suits you and we’ll make it work.

Are certain dog breeds harder to train than others in your classes?

Every breed learns in their own way, but all breeds are welcome and can benefit from our approach. From Chihuahuas to Rottweilers, the methods I use are positive and tailored. We’re just as happy helping small family dogs as we are with working and guarding breeds.

How much does dog training cost, and do I need to commit to a long course?

There are no lock-in contracts or upfront package fees. You pay per class—just $35 for group sessions or $120 for private one-on-ones, whether in-home or online. You’re welcome to come as often or as little as you need, so there’s no pressure or ongoing commitment.

Can older dogs still learn new behaviours in your sessions?

Absolutely, age isn’t a barrier. I regularly help dogs well into their senior years pick up obedience skills and fix unwanted habits. Sessions are always paced around your dog’s needs so they aren’t overwhelmed.

What should I bring to a Saturday class at Claremont Park?

You’ll need your dog on a sturdy lead, their favourite training treats, poop bags, and water for both of you. If you’re new to Dog obedience training Orange Grove, come along ten minutes early and I’ll help you settle in. Please make sure your dog is up to date with vaccinations, especially for group classes.
