OUR PROCESS

The Naval Base Dog Training Process

Dog training classes in to improve obedience and behavior. Expert trainers for happy, well.

Initial Consultation

Our process begins with a quick phone consultation to discuss your dog’s behaviour challenges and any specific issues you’re facing. Once we have a clear understanding of your situation, we’ll discuss the best training options and arrange a time to assess your dog in the appropriate environment, either at home or another location.

Preliminary Assessment

Next, we conduct an assessment, which can take place at your home or via Zoom for online sessions. During the one-hour assessment, we’ll gather information about your dog’s history, current behaviour, and environment. We’ll then provide you with a detailed explanation of why these behaviours are occurring and how they can be addressed.

Problem Solving

Once we’ve assessed your dog’s behaviour, we’ll help you understand the underlying causes of the issues. We will guide you through practical solutions and provide the necessary tools to resolve the behaviour challenges. Our aim is to give you the knowledge and confidence to address these issues effectively.

Training Recommendation

At the conclusion of the consultation, we will provide tailored training recommendations. This includes advice on managing your dog’s behaviour, implementing strategies moving forward, and the type of training that will be most beneficial. Depending on your dog’s needs, we may recommend additional sessions, follow-up consultations, or group training classes.

What Is Dog Obedience Training and How Does It Work?

Dog obedience training is a structured process of teaching your dog to respond to commands, behave appropriately in different environments, and interact safely with people and other animals. It starts with the basics — sit, stay, come, leave it, and heel — and builds from there depending on your dog’s needs.

Most owners notice meaningful improvements within a few weeks. Training also teaches you — our trainers make sure you understand the techniques and timing needed to maintain progress at home, because that’s where the real results happen.

Benefits of Dog Training Naval Base

Calmer walks from week one

Owners and their dogs quickly experience less pulling and lunging during neighborhood strolls. Daily walks become more enjoyable as dogs learn to focus and follow commands, reducing stress and allowing for quality time outdoors.

Reliable recall at busy parks

Returning to you when called becomes second nature for your dog, even with distractions around. This confidence lets you safely visit off-leash parks, knowing your dog will respond despite enticing sights, sounds, and other pets.

Easier greetings for visitors

Unexpected guests and deliveries become simpler to manage as your dog learns to greet calmly at the door. Owners can welcome friends or accept packages without the worry of barking, jumping, or door-dashing incidents.

Flexible weekend classes in Naval Base

Busy schedules are accommodated with convenient weekend sessions in the Naval Base area, eliminating the need to rearrange weekday commitments. This practical approach ensures consistent training while fitting seamlessly into family routines.

Why Training Matters

Before Training

Pulling, ignoring, jumping
Pulling on the lead, jumping on guests, and ignoring recall. Most owners wonder if this is just how their dog is — it isn’t.

During Training

Safety, less stress, better life
A dog that responds reliably to commands is less likely to put itself or others at risk. Dogs that understand expectations feel more settled and less anxious.

After Training

A stronger bond for life
Clear communication and consistent instruction builds
trust between you and your dog in a way few other activities can. Training is an ongoing habit, not a one-time fix.

How to get the most out of it

Every dog learns at its own pace
There is no universal timeline. Some dogs pick things up fast, others need more repetition. Focus
on progress, celebrate small wins, and trust the process.

Consistency is everything
Same commands, tone, and expectations every time — and make sure everyone in the household does the
same. Mixed signals are the most common reason dogs struggle.

Keep sessions short and frequent
5–10 minutes several times a day beats one long exhausting session. Always finish on something your
dog does well so training stays a positive experience.

Reward timing matters
Reward within 1–2 seconds of the desired behaviour. Any longer and your dog may not make the
connection. Precise timing is what accelerates learning.

Training is an ongoing habit
Finishing a programme is just the beginning. Continuing to reinforce what your dog has learned is
what keeps a well-trained dog well-trained for life.

Dog Obedience Training Service FAQs Naval Base

Where do your dog training classes take place near Naval Base?

Classes run every Saturday morning at Claremont Park and Sunday afternoons at Nicholson Reserve in Yangebup. Both spots are a short drive from Naval Base and have plenty of parking. We use open areas so the dogs have space to learn and play while socializing with other pups. Exact times and meeting points are sent out by email once you register.

What ages and breeds do you accept for training?

We welcome all breeds and mixes, and any dog from 8 weeks old right up to seniors. Training is tailored based on each dog’s age and temperament, so even older rescue dogs or energetic puppies can get involved. No dog is ever too old (or too young) to learn new skills.

Do you have flexible options if I can’t make it to in-person classes?

Along with group sessions at the parks, we offer in-home training anywhere in the Naval Base area. There are Zoom lessons available too, which work well for busy schedules or nervous dogs who need to start out at home. Just let us know your preference when you get in touch.

Is there a minimum contract or long-term commitment required?

No lock-in contracts here. You can book in for one class or a block, whatever works best. Many folks start with a single session to see how their dog goes and then continue if they’re happy. You’re never tied down or pressured to sign any long-term deals.

Does my dog need to be vaccinated before joining the class?

Yes, all dogs need to be up to date with their core vaccinations. Just bring your dog’s vaccination record to the first class or have a copy handy for in-home sessions. This helps keep everyone safe, especially the younger puppies.

Can you help with dog obedience training Naval Base locals trust for problem behaviours?

Absolutely, we cover everything from pulling on the leash to barking, jumping up or recall problems. Sessions are positive and reward-based, matched to your dog’s personality and history. If you’re struggling with specific issues at home, training can be tailored for real results on your turf or via Zoom.

What if I have multiple dogs—can they be trained together?

You’re welcome to bring more than one dog. In group classes, we recommend having a separate handler for each dog to keep things manageable. For in-home or private sessions, training can be adjusted so both (or all) your dogs get focused attention.
