OUR PROCESS

The Kardinya Dog Training Process

Dog training classes in to improve obedience and behavior. Expert trainers for happy, well.

Initial Consultation

Our process begins with a quick phone consultation to discuss your dog’s behaviour challenges and any specific issues you’re facing. Once we have a clear understanding of your situation, we’ll discuss the best training options and arrange a time to assess your dog in the appropriate environment, either at home or another location.

Preliminary Assessment

Next, we conduct an assessment, which can take place at your home or via Zoom for online sessions. During the one-hour assessment, we’ll gather information about your dog’s history, current behaviour, and environment. We’ll then provide you with a detailed explanation of why these behaviours are occurring and how they can be addressed.

Problem Solving

Once we’ve assessed your dog’s behaviour, we’ll help you understand the underlying causes of the issues. We will guide you through practical solutions and provide the necessary tools to resolve the behaviour challenges. Our aim is to give you the knowledge and confidence to address these issues effectively.

Training Recommendation

At the conclusion of the consultation, we will provide tailored training recommendations. This includes advice on managing your dog’s behaviour, implementing strategies moving forward, and the type of training that will be most beneficial. Depending on your dog’s needs, we may recommend additional sessions, follow-up consultations, or group training classes.

What Is Dog Obedience Training and How Does It Work?

Dog obedience training is a structured process of teaching your dog to respond to commands, behave appropriately in different environments, and interact safely with people and other animals. It starts with the basics — sit, stay, come, leave it, and heel — and builds from there depending on your dog’s needs.

Most owners notice meaningful improvements within a few weeks. Training also teaches you — our trainers make sure you understand the techniques and timing needed to maintain progress at home, because that’s where the real results happen.

Benefits of Dog Training Kardinya

Calmer walks from week one

Enjoy peaceful outings around Kardinya as your dog learns to walk by your side without pulling or lunging. Daily strolls become more predictable and enjoyable, reducing frustration and giving you time to relax and connect with your pet. As your dog responds to your pace, you can look forward to stress-free walks.

More reliable recall at the park

Feel confident allowing your dog off-leash at local parks, knowing they will return the moment you call. This not only increases your dog’s freedom but also your peace of mind. Social interactions with other dogs and owners become smoother, and outings feel more manageable.

Less jumping when visitors arrive

Greet guests without chaos as your dog curbs their jumping and learns appropriate greetings. Hosting friends or family is less stressful, as your dog remains calm and under control. Your home becomes a more welcoming space for both visitors and your pet.

Why Training Matters

Before Training

Pulling, ignoring, jumping
Pulling on the lead, jumping on guests, and ignoring recall. Most owners wonder if this is just how their dog is — it isn’t.

During Training

Safety, less stress, better life
A dog that responds reliably to commands is less likely to put itself or others at risk. Dogs that understand expectations feel more settled and less anxious.

After Training

A stronger bond for life
Clear communication and consistent instruction builds
trust between you and your dog in a way few other activities can. Training is an ongoing habit, not a one-time fix.

How to get the most out of it

Every dog learns at its own pace
There is no universal timeline. Some dogs pick things up fast, others need more repetition. Focus
on progress, celebrate small wins, and trust the process.

Consistency is everything
Same commands, tone, and expectations every time — and make sure everyone in the household does the
same. Mixed signals are the most common reason dogs struggle.

Keep sessions short and frequent
5–10 minutes several times a day beats one long exhausting session. Always finish on something your
dog does well so training stays a positive experience.

Reward timing matters
Reward within 1–2 seconds of the desired behaviour. Any longer and your dog may not make the
connection. Precise timing is what accelerates learning.

Training is an ongoing habit
Finishing a programme is just the beginning. Continuing to reinforce what your dog has learned is
what keeps a well-trained dog well-trained for life.

Dog Obedience Training Service FAQs Kardinya

What days and locations do you run your dog training classes near Kardinya?

We run our training sessions on Saturdays at Claremont Park and Sundays at Nicholson Reserve in Yangebup. Both locations are a quick drive from Kardinya and offer lots of space for the dogs to learn. All classes are in the morning to avoid the hotter parts of the day.

Can I bring my puppy to your classes, or do they need to be a certain age?

Puppies are welcome as soon as they’ve had their first round of vaccinations, which is usually around 8 weeks old. Our classes are designed for all ages, so whether your dog is a puppy or a senior, we tailor the training to suit them.

Do you offer private or in-home dog training sessions?

We do offer both in-home and private sessions, as well as remote lessons via Zoom. Some dogs learn better in a quieter environment at home, and Zoom is a good option if you’re unable to travel or want a quick check-in between classes.

Is there a lock-in contract for your dog training programs?

There are no lock-in contracts with us. You can pay as you go for each class, and stop or pause whenever you need. We want training to be flexible and work around your schedule.

Are some breeds harder to train, or do you welcome all dogs?

We welcome all breeds and sizes at our sessions. Every dog is different, so we adapt our methods to their personality and background. With a patient approach, even stubborn breeds respond well to dog obedience training Kardinya residents rely on.

How much does your dog training cost?

Group classes are $35 per session, and private or in-home sessions start at $70. There are discounts if you book multiple sessions together, but you can also just pay as you go for each class without any obligation.

Is it too late to train my older dog?

There’s no age limit for dog training. Older dogs can learn new skills with the right encouragement and patience. We often see senior dogs make great progress in our classes and private sessions.
