OUR PROCESS

The Marangaroo Dog Training Process

Dog training classes in to improve obedience and behavior. Expert trainers for happy, well.

Initial Consultation

Our process begins with a quick phone consultation to discuss your dog’s behaviour challenges and any specific issues you’re facing. Once we have a clear understanding of your situation, we’ll discuss the best training options and arrange a time to assess your dog in the appropriate environment, either at home or another location.

Preliminary Assessment

Next, we conduct an assessment, which can take place at your home or via Zoom for online sessions. During the one-hour assessment, we’ll gather information about your dog’s history, current behaviour, and environment. We’ll then provide you with a detailed explanation of why these behaviours are occurring and how they can be addressed.

Problem Solving

Once we’ve assessed your dog’s behaviour, we’ll help you understand the underlying causes of the issues. We will guide you through practical solutions and provide the necessary tools to resolve the behaviour challenges. Our aim is to give you the knowledge and confidence to address these issues effectively.

Training Recommendation

At the conclusion of the consultation, we will provide tailored training recommendations. This includes advice on managing your dog’s behaviour, implementing strategies moving forward, and the type of training that will be most beneficial. Depending on your dog’s needs, we may recommend additional sessions, follow-up consultations, or group training classes.

What Is Dog Obedience Training and How Does It Work?

Dog obedience training is a structured process of teaching your dog to respond to commands, behave appropriately in different environments, and interact safely with people and other animals. It starts with the basics — sit, stay, come, leave it, and heel — and builds from there depending on your dog’s needs.

Most owners notice meaningful improvements within a few weeks. Training also teaches you — our trainers make sure you understand the techniques and timing needed to maintain progress at home, because that’s where the real results happen.

Benefits of Dog Training Marangaroo

Calmer walks from week one

Owners quickly notice less pulling and lunging during daily walks, making outings more enjoyable and less stressful. With improved leash manners, walks around the Marangaroo area become smoother and allow for more spontaneous trips outdoors. Regular walks transform from a challenging task into a relaxing activity for both you and your dog.

Reduced barking at home visitors

Dogs learn to greet guests calmly, meaning fewer interruptions and a quieter home environment. Owners can welcome friends without worrying about excessive noise or embarrassment. Hosting gatherings becomes easier, and you can focus on your guests rather than managing your dog’s excitement.

Flexible weekend sessions for busy families

Weekend training in Marangaroo fits easily into most schedules, eliminating the stress of rushing on weekdays. Families can participate together, reinforcing consistency in training across the household. This convenience supports steady progress while adapting to your busy lifestyle.

More reliable recall at local parks

Owners quickly gain confidence letting their dog off-leash in Marangaroo’s parks, trusting that their pet will return when called. This makes outdoor playtime safer and increases enjoyment for both pet and owner. Dog-friendly spaces become more accessible, leading to more social and active routines.

Why Training Matters

Before Training

Pulling, ignoring, jumping
Pulling on the lead, jumping on guests, and ignoring recall. Most owners wonder if this is just how their dog is — it isn’t.

During Training

Safety, less stress, better life
A dog that responds reliably to commands is less likely to put itself or others at risk. Dogs that understand expectations feel more settled and less anxious.

After Training

A stronger bond for life
Clear communication and consistent instruction builds
trust between you and your dog in a way few other activities can. Training is an ongoing habit, not a one-time fix.

How to get the most out of it

Every dog learns at its own pace
There is no universal timeline. Some dogs pick things up fast, others need more repetition. Focus
on progress, celebrate small wins, and trust the process.

Consistency is everything
Same commands, tone, and expectations every time — and make sure everyone in the household does the
same. Mixed signals are the most common reason dogs struggle.

Keep sessions short and frequent
5–10 minutes several times a day beats one long exhausting session. Always finish on something your
dog does well so training stays a positive experience.

Reward timing matters
Reward within 1–2 seconds of the desired behaviour. Any longer and your dog may not make the
connection. Precise timing is what accelerates learning.

Training is an ongoing habit
Finishing a programme is just the beginning. Continuing to reinforce what your dog has learned is
what keeps a well-trained dog well-trained for life.

Our classes run every Saturday at Claremont Park in Marangaroo, and every Sunday we’re at Nicholson Reserve in Yangebup. These locations have plenty of space for practical training sessions, socialising, and for larger breeds to move around. You’ll get location details and times when you book your spot.

Can puppies join your classes or is there a minimum age?

Puppies can start training with us from 8 weeks of age, providing they’re up to date with their vaccinations. Younger pups benefit from early socialisation and learning good manners right from the start. All breeds and ages are welcome in our classes.

Do you offer any options besides group classes?

Are some breeds too difficult or stubborn to train?

Every breed has its quirks but none are impossible to train. Whether you’ve got a high-energy kelpie or a determined Dachshund, our approach adapts to your dog’s unique personality. We’ve worked with everything from Chihuahuas to Rottweilers and always look for what motivates your dog best.

There’s no lock-in contract with our dog training. You can pay as you go for each session, so you’re free to attend as often as you like without any long-term commitment. This way you can choose what works best for your schedule and your dog’s needs.
