OUR PROCESS

The Wandi Dog Training Process

Dog training classes in to improve obedience and behavior. Expert trainers for happy, well.

Initial Consultation

Our process begins with a quick phone consultation to discuss your dog’s behaviour challenges and any specific issues you’re facing. Once we have a clear understanding of your situation, we’ll discuss the best training options and arrange a time to assess your dog in the appropriate environment, either at home or another location.

Preliminary Assessment

Next, we conduct an assessment, which can take place at your home or via Zoom for online sessions. During the one-hour assessment, we’ll gather information about your dog’s history, current behaviour, and environment. We’ll then provide you with a detailed explanation of why these behaviours are occurring and how they can be addressed.

Problem Solving

Once we’ve assessed your dog’s behaviour, we’ll help you understand the underlying causes of the issues. We will guide you through practical solutions and provide the necessary tools to resolve the behaviour challenges. Our aim is to give you the knowledge and confidence to address these issues effectively.

Training Recommendation

At the conclusion of the consultation, we will provide tailored training recommendations. This includes advice on managing your dog’s behaviour, implementing strategies moving forward, and the type of training that will be most beneficial. Depending on your dog’s needs, we may recommend additional sessions, follow-up consultations, or group training classes.

What Is Dog Obedience Training and How Does It Work?

Dog obedience training is a structured process of teaching your dog to respond to commands, behave appropriately in different environments, and interact safely with people and other animals. It starts with the basics — sit, stay, come, leave it, and heel — and builds from there depending on your dog’s needs.

Most owners notice meaningful improvements within a few weeks. Training also teaches you — our trainers make sure you understand the techniques and timing needed to maintain progress at home, because that’s where the real results happen.

Benefits of Dog Training Wandi

Calmer walks from week one

Daily strolls become far more enjoyable as dogs learn to respond to commands and ignore distractions. Owners notice less pulling and lunging, turning stressful outings into relaxing activities. With consistent training, every walk around Wandi feels more peaceful and controlled.

Effortless greetings with visitors

Entering guests are met with a composed, friendly dog instead of frantic jumping or barking. This creates a more welcoming home environment and reduces the worry of unpredictable pet behavior. Social gatherings at home become much easier to host.

More freedom during family time

Improved recall and response mean your dog can safely join in family activities, whether playing outside or relaxing indoors. Owners can allow more off-leash time and give trusted independence, enhancing the bond between pet and family. Routine moments become more harmonious and enjoyable together.

Convenient weekend classes in Wandi

With local sessions scheduled on weekends, fitting training into a busy week is easier than ever. Wandi residents save time on travel and manage their work-life balance without compromising their dog’s progress. Dog owners benefit from accessible, community-focused support right in their neighbourhood.

Why Training Matters

Before Training

Pulling, ignoring, jumping
Pulling on the lead, jumping on guests, and ignoring recall. Most owners wonder if this is just how their dog is — it isn’t.

During Training

Safety, less stress, better life
A dog that responds reliably to commands is less likely to put itself or others at risk. Dogs that understand expectations feel more settled and less anxious.

After Training

A stronger bond for life
Clear communication and consistent instruction builds
trust between you and your dog in a way few other activities can. Training is an ongoing habit, not a one-time fix.

How to get the most out of it

Every dog learns at its own pace
There is no universal timeline. Some dogs pick things up fast, others need more repetition. Focus
on progress, celebrate small wins, and trust the process.

Consistency is everything
Same commands, tone, and expectations every time — and make sure everyone in the household does the
same. Mixed signals are the most common reason dogs struggle.

Keep sessions short and frequent
5–10 minutes several times a day beats one long exhausting session. Always finish on something your
dog does well so training stays a positive experience.

Reward timing matters
Reward within 1–2 seconds of the desired behaviour. Any longer and your dog may not make the
connection. Precise timing is what accelerates learning.

Training is an ongoing habit
Finishing a programme is just the beginning. Continuing to reinforce what your dog has learned is
what keeps a well-trained dog well-trained for life.

Dog Obedience Training Service FAQs Wandi

What days are your dog training classes held in Wandi?

Training classes are every Saturday at Claremont Park and every Sunday at Nicholson Reserve in Yangebup. This gives you a couple of options each weekend, whether you need Saturday morning or Sunday afternoon. Both parks have plenty of space and shade.

Can puppies join your classes, and what’s the minimum age?

All puppies are welcome as long as they’re at least 8 weeks old and have had their first round of vaccinations. I’ve got experience with young pups as well as older rescue dogs, so we can tailor the training to their age and experience.

Are there any breed restrictions for your dog obedience training Wandi?

There are no breed restrictions at all. We welcome any breed, size, or temperament. Whether your dog is a Chihuahua or a Great Dane, the classes are designed to help everyone succeed.

Do you offer online dog training or just in-person?

We offer both in-person group classes at the parks, private home sessions, and also Zoom sessions if you’d like training from home. Zoom dog training is great for basic commands, new puppies, or if you have a busy family schedule.

What if I can’t commit to every class or need to miss some weeks?

There’s no lock-in contract, so you can come as often as you like, pay per session, and skip weeks if you need to. Life gets busy—just book your spot each week when it suits you and your dog.

Is dog training expensive? What do your classes cost?

We keep classes affordable and flexible. Group classes start from $25 per session, and you only pay for the weeks you attend. Private sessions and Zoom calls have their own rates which I can share with you up front—no hidden fees or surprise costs.

What should I bring to the dog obedience class?

Bring your dog on a lead, some small treats for rewards, a water bowl, and any favourite toys that help with focus. If your pup gets anxious, bring something familiar from home, too.
